Hi!

This isn't for my computer unfortunately, so I can't provide much information up front. I was helping someone over the phone who owns an HP laptop with basically vanilla Ubuntu. He almost always has it hooked up to a wired network.

After the latest updates (which included a kernel update), he has been unable to connect at all. I stepped him through connecting to a wireless network, but that didn't seem to work either. (I can't be sure if it was Ubuntu or user error there; we both got a little confused about WPA keys — seems he had a 7 character one written down but it's meant to be 8…).

We tried connecting to a wired network through Network Manager's panel applet, but again it gave up and dropped the connection.

I will have the computer to play with in person tomorrow, but I was wondering if someone here has had a similar issue with a recent update. Maybe we can compare notes :)
