Can't Play .dat files

Hello, I am Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx) user. I cannot plat any dat file from VCD in my computer. I don't know why? I have already install all gstreamer plugins and Ubuntu Restricted Extras. I tried to play dat files from VCD by Mplayer, VLC player, Movie Player and Kaffein. But all in vain. So, can anybody plz help.

So what!!!!! Hopefully there will be some way to play .dat files.

".dat" is short for "data" - I think there's a thread with a similar question somewhere in the forum. Please stand by....
