Toshiba Canvio Plus formatting questions

Long story, but I have a new Toshiba Canvio Plus. I'm trying to back up my system before reinstalling Ubuntu (eBox screwed my system!). The LiveCD for 10.04 recognized the USB drive, but realizes it's not formatted.

I'm trying to go all Linux all the time - should I just go ahead and do the GUID Partition? Doesn't really tell me anymore except that I can also do Apple Partition or no partition!

Ideas?

Hey we sound like at similar spots with data! I just got a canvio 1tb toshiba plus, too. AND I do plan (and alread y am) to be linux for main OS (right now it's at rougly 80% linux or more). Anyways, I plan to use truecrypt on the external drive but am uncertain best file system for it. Prob fat32 or ntfs until I get everything on linux.
