Hello

I just decided to switch over yet again from windows to linux and now when i installed the ati drivers through the restricted drivers application it was very laggy. When i played a simple movie file(low res xvid) in vlc it got some horizontal lines just like it could not keep up with the rendering.

Well, a couple of hours later and hundreds of different settings later i tried to just install the drivers because i downloaded one directly from ati.com, but in the meanwhile without a driver, i tried to play the same videofile and even a more "high end" HD file and everything worked just fine. How come? The funny thing is that i can play 3d games and use the extra visual effects in gnome too without a problem.

My gfx card is ati radeon hd 4500 series.
