So there are some updates that I just applied, and now all my theming I have done to GDM are back to square 1. I was able to reapply a better background, but nothing else works for theming the GDM.
Please don't bother telling me to use ubuntu tweak. If it's in ubuntu tweak, it can be done by hand another way. I'd rather know what I'm doing with my system first hand than to rely on something to do it for me. That way if something breaks, I know how to fix it.
