2.6.32 vs. 2.6.34 kernel problems and questions...

    Thinkpad T410, 64-bit, 10.04, 2.6.34 kernel

    Hello,

I recently upgraded the 2.6.32 kernel to the mainline 2.6.34 version to solve a problem where my USB ports would quit after returning from suspend. As suggested in the ThinkWiki forum, upgrading the kernel solved the suspend issue. But now my VirtualBox fails -- as described in this post:

    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1517197

    I have two options:

Either return to 2.6.32 and try to solve the suspend problem, or remain with 2.6.34 and try to solve VirtualBox.

I went to http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa...-lucid/CHANGES and looked at the changes that had been implemented for the 2.6.34 kernel that may have solved the USB / Suspend issue. I thought maybe I could apply this to 2.6.32.

    I'm stumped. Any advice?

Try rebuilding the VirtualBox modules with

    Code:
    sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
Make sure you have installed the kernel headers as well.

Thank you. I had tried that several times, and it didn't work. It still hung looking for dependencies that were already installed.

However, starting from scratch with the VBox PUEL version straight from Sun -- umm, Oracle -- did the trick with the 2.6.34 kernel. I'm unsure what the underlying issue was.
