    9.04 - Sound only working thru headphone jack after speakers were plugged in

    I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 on a Dell Inspiron 9200. The other day my buddy was watching a movie and decided to plug some speakers in the side.. ever since then, sound only works if I have headphones or speakers plugged in.

    lspci tells me my audio controller is this:

    00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 01)

    Another fishy thing... I have 9.10 installed on a separate partition. If I boot into 9.10, I find that the same thing has happened.. Quite odd. This makes me think it could perhaps be a physical hardware issue if the problem spans multiple versions/partitions...

    Any ideas, guys?

    Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this,

    If you dual-boot windows, try adjusting sound there.
    Can you post the output of these terminal commands for me please:
    Code:
    uname -a
    aplay -l
    dpkg -l | grep "alsa"
    head -1 /proc/asound/card0/codec97#0/ac97#0-0
    Terminal="Applications->Accessories->Terminal"
    Please also include the make/model of your PC/Laptop.
    Please post text output using code tags (the # in toolbar)
