I have a Dell Studio 1555 with Ubuntu 10.04 x64 installed. For the last 2 months, the system worked seamlessly. However, today, I noticed that the internal mic and the webcam were not working. I had a display change a month back and had checked both at that time(since the cable for the two and the WiFi antenna runs behind the LCD). They worked then. Also, I have used WiFi on my system on Monday morning, so the cable is fine I guess. I remember the system updating Gstreamer packages sometime back and tried reinstalling them....but to no avail. See the screenshots attached for further details. My webcam works perfectly well with Cheese since Jaunty.
I don't know how to roll back the update. Also, I use PPA's for Docky, Conky, Exaile, Deluge, Mediubuntu, Gnome-Shell,Google Chrome, Empathy and SMplayer.
If it is not a software issue, how can I be sure of a hardware trouble? My notebook is under complete cover so I can get parts replaced if they are faulty.
