I'm using a Lenovo T61 with 960 MB of RAM. When I do System > Administration > System Monitor, I note there are several processes are running or sleeping. The point is all of these processes (whether they are idle or not) takes up enormous amount of memory.
I screen-printed the list of these processes, can anyone tell me which processes are absolutely important to remain opened and which processes can be ended?
P.S. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.

Reason: add more information
Re: System processes
I don't see anything taking up "enormous amounts of memory". The only thing using more than a few MB is Opera, and web browsers normally use a lot. Sorting the process list by memory used would be very helpful for your question.
