    Firefox intermittenly crashes GPU (lucid)

While using Firefox in Lucid, occasionally I am getting a GPU crash which of course kills the display. <ctrl>+<alt>+<bksp> does not reset X11. The only way I have found to recover is to ssh in and force a reboot from the CLI.

    dmesg output:

Bump for help. Just had this happen again.

Re: Firefox intermittenly crashes GPU (lucid)

Try a memtest from the GRUB menu for a while and see if there are any memory issues. Intel GMAs use system RAM, so if something goes wrong there then it will cause display issues.

I had total lockups in lucid, but that was using the NVIDIA driver so it's likely unrelated. I don't see any problems on Maverick, however. If you've got some free time and free disk space, why not install Maverick on a separate partition and see if you experience the same issues?

In the event that the GMA has failed, there aren't a lot of options other than replacing the motherboard, since they're soldered on. But I doubt this is the case; it's likely bad RAM or driver issues.

    Thanks for your reply.

Well, for the past several days, I have been running the machine off a flash drive because I tried to install Chris Wilson's xorg patch and it rendered the machine unbootable -> http://ubuntuforums.org/newreply.php...eply&p=9686105

I experienced no lockups while using my Hardy based flash drive. As soon as I reverted to the, sort of, working xorg, I experienced a GPU lockup.

I will do a memory test, but I am fairly confident after having run the machine on the flash drive that the problem is neither RAM related nor mainboard related.
