Glad it worked. It seems like you just needed to compile both the ath9k and atl1c drivers at the same time. In the future, you will probably need to repeat the process that made things work whenever you update your kernel. Usually Ubuntu updates pushes out a new kernel package every month or so.

I would also give Ubuntu 12.04 a try when it appears later this month. With any luck both your wired and wireless cards will both "just work" in that latest version of the operating system.

I guess its time for me to create a back up of the working system, is there any guide? my system is working and I'm loving it as we speak.
When I plugged the lan cable the lan connection takes over the wlan automatically which is nice.

1. is there a way to turn off kernel auto update?
2. my compiz yes the desktop cube is not working is there a way to make it work? I have compiz and compiz-fusion-plugins-extras installed but no worky.

***I need another system for the Ubuntu 12.04 coz it took me some time (27 hours to be exact) to make this system work the way I wanted***.

busols: you can disable updates in general using the Software Sources tool. I don't know of a way to turn off kernel updates specifically, however. Also, it is not generally a good idea to disable kernel updates because they include security patches.

Your compiz issues are most likely related to your graphics driver, but I'm afraid I don't know as much about that stuff. You should start a new thread for this issue in the appropriate part of the forums.

On backing up the system, refer to the wiki or google.

I'm actually having a similar problem in Ubuntu 12.04.. The internet barely works at boot until I run "sudo dhclient eth0" in a terminal. My network card is a Marvell Yukon 88E8053 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

adamant715: a simple solution would be to write a boot script so that command runs automatically each time you turn on your computer. If you need further instructions let me know.

Sono riuscito a scaricare il file compact-wireless2.6.tar.bz2,come avevi consigliato all'altro utente.
dopo installazione su pendrive il sistema rifiuta il CD 10.04.4LTS i386 non consentendomi di procedere con installazione driver.
Cosa posso fare?

Hello there.
I'm experiencing intermittent connection with an AR8151, on another thread the guys were having this problem and it seems the solution pytheas22 posted here actualy solved the issue for them.
I already rebooted and am testing right now with fingers crossed. Until now the thing is working, I'll let you know if it's actually working properly after some hours of torrent downloading.

tedmar: it's a compilation error, so you might have better luck if you downloaded a different snapshot of the source code (especially an older one). The copy you got could just happen to have a bug in it. At http://linuxwireless.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/ you can grab copies from a wide range of different dates.

If that doesn't help, please post the output of:

lspci -nn

so I know exactly which chipset you have.

Also, chances are the device would "just work" if you upgraded to a more recent version of Ubuntu, if that is a possibility. 10.04 is not getting a bit old.

I just installed 12.10 on a brand new desktop I put together. I'm thinking the driver issue is my problem as well. I got the same compilation error so I went to http://linuxwireless.org/download/compat-wireless-2.6/ and grabbed the file named compat-wireless.tar.bz2 dated Feb 6 2013 that is 6.1MB. Is this going to be the same as the one you called out on the first page? Apologies, but I haven't been able to read the whole thread yet... Thanks!
