Re: Wired ethernet not getting detected

Okei, this is strange. I did what you say, and then I was finish with "sudo ifconfig eth0 up", I could use the internet. Then I installed the wireless-driver, and had to reboot the computer.

When I then again came in to the "Ubuntu-startup-screen", and after that it all is black. I can't to anything!

It seemed to work, but now it wouldn't startup.

Here is the output that I copied when I was finish install the driver. I don't think you need that though:
    Code:
    sondre@sondre-laptop:~$ cd ~/Skrivebord
    sondre@sondre-laptop:~/Skrivebord$ cd AR81
    sondre@sondre-laptop:~/Skrivebord/AR81$ sudo cp src/atl1e.ko /lib/modules/2.6.32-24-generic/kernel/drivers/net/atl1e/

Re: Wired ethernet not getting detected

NetGeir: there are a lot of reasons that may have happened and it's hard to know what's at fault without being able to boot the system and see some output.

Did you do anything else (such as apply updates) besides downloading the wireless driver, once you got an Internet connection?

Can you boot to a "recovery mode" prompt (on your Ubuntu boot menu, the second line should be a recovery mode)? If you can get that far, we might be able to try to fix your system.

Otherwise, your only option might be to try reinstalling Ubuntu from scratch, then installing the Internet driver as you did before but without installing the wireless, and rebooting after that to make sure it's not the ethernet driver that's causing problems (it's unlikely that it is).

Cool Re: Wired ethernet not getting detected- N4010

    Hello,

I tried the method you specified in the first reply of this thread. Where I got stuck up was the selection of at11c driver. It said unsupported driver. Please help. I am ready with the results of all the commands you asked to execute in the previous replies

    Here are they:

    venkidwaraka,
Have you tried the following steps? (also outlined in this thread)

Re: Wired ethernet not getting detected

venkidwaraka: as mike909 points out, you can get both your wired and wireless interfaces working using that link.

Another solution is simply to reinstall Ubuntu using the 10.10 version, which you can download from http://releases.ubuntu.com/10.10/. Ubuntu 10.10 is still in beta but should work reasonably well at this point. It comes with a driver for your ethernet card preinstalled, so that will at least work--and once you have ethernet you can easily install the wireless driver by enabling wireless in the System>Administration>Hardware Drivers utility.

I didn't recommend Ubuntu 10.10 earlier in this thread because I wasn't sure if it would work, but I just checked and it definitely will support the AR81 ethernet chips.
