init ureadahead error and no splash screen

UPDATE: I solved it. Turns out it was a combination of installing the newest kernel (2.6.34) and the Plymouth/boot issue listed in the common fixes thread. That also explains why I've had such an ugly splash screen since installing 10.04.

    ---------------------------------------

I turned on my computer yesterday and out of nowhere I've been getting this message before the 10.04 splash/loading screen:

"init ureadahead main process (321) terminated with status 5"

Additionally, I'm no longer getting the Ubuntu logo on the splash screen. Instead it's just the purple background and shows the text of what's loading. The same thing happens when I shutdown, I get lines of text of all the processes that are closing rather than the typical splash screen.

I searched for the ureadahead issue, and from what I read, people seem to get that kind of message when /var is on a separate partition. I only have one partition on my hard drive, though, so that's not my issue. I can make that message go away by disabling ureadahead.conf, but I don't think that's actually solving whatever the problem is (plus, I still have the splash screen issue).

Any idea what's causing either or both of these problems?

Here's my syslog from when I turned on my computer a little while ago, if that helps at all:
