Smile Would You Consider Linux to be an OS or a way of Life

Back in the day I was a Windows user by default until I discovered Linux like every other person in this forum. Before Ubuntu or Linux to be a little more general I never really thought about the operating system and what an OS really does. With Windows it was pretty simple, buy a computer, buy hundreds or even thousands of dollars worth of software and then anti virus software as insurance. It all seemed so vanilla.

But with Linux I have notice this feeling of achievement and support that I really can't put my finger on , but it's wonderful. It's like being the Ultimate Fanboys ( and girls).

So would you consider Linux to be just another operating system or something much more, a movement, a revolution, even a way of life.

    Hmmm... good point.

I especially like the freedom of Linux, (free as in free speech) (see avatar for more details)
The above post definitely does not contain any sarcasm at all.

    From a Newbie View:

It appears that Linux users fall into four categories:

    A) Clergy - Open Source and Linux are a religion. It's a spiritual thingy. Kumbaya my Lord, Kumbaya!

    B) Bargain Hunters - Tired of high software and license costs.

    C) Techies - Hackers (old syntax) who like to customize, tinker, and develop.

    D) Refugees - MS or Apple got them so frustrated that they needed some fresh air.
    Patrick McSwain - New 32bit & 64bit Ubuntu 10.04 user as of 5/1/2010.
Networking new Linux computers into my existing Wintel-based small technical business.
I was a DOS programmer in a previous life. No UNIX/Linux experience at all.

I'd say way of life since you spend three quarters of your life configuring stuff.

I totally agree with you. When I use Linux I kinda reach a level of computer "Nirvana". I am happy that I am using something far superior to anything else out there. I would describe Ubuntu and Linux both like a family's secret recipe. Just like a recipe they bring me joy and happiness. Although, unlike a family's secret recipe, I want to share this experience with as many people as possible.

As for if Linux is a revolution? It definitely is one (just check my user name). We are a small, yet growing, percentage of the OS market share. By using Linux, I feel like i'm sticking it to the "Man" (Microsoft and Apple). Hopefully, I can help this revolution grow by helping in every way possible.
