Ubuntu 10.04 desktop random freeze

Hi,

I have a Ubuntu 10.04 fresh installation on my HP laptop. Installation successful and boot OK. But the desktop randomly freeze.

During freeze(about 15s each time), all programs are not responsive. Sometimes I can switch program by click, but program seems locked.

How can I know which module cause the freeze?

Hi,
I have the same issue on my desktop with Ubuntu 10.04 fresh install. I'is about several weeks that i'm looking for the solution but have no luck for the moment. I'd like to know what can cause the problem.

The freezes occur randomly, it may take from several minutes to a whole day before the system hangs up.

After the freeze occurs i can always move the cursor but the rest seems to be locked. During the freeze if i click on some window, it takes 10 to 20 seconds to the window to get the focus and so on.

i would appreciate any help,

I just had a random freeze 5 min ago. It seems like there's no real solutions yet. Anyone has any suggestion? I'm thinking it may have something with the hardware on certain computers. My other desktop has never experienced any freezes.

Also having random desktop freeze. Freeze is limited to desktop as I can get to console with ssh.

Visual Effects were "Normal", now changed to "None". I don't know yet if that helps.

Machine Acer Veriton M680G (desktop).
