Unhappy How do I get back my Ubuntu?

I was using Ibex and upgraded it to Jackalope 2 days back, and yesterday I was upgrading to Ubuntu 9.10 and while the packages were being downloaded, the power went off and I tried to boot ubuntu today, but it said "mountall: symbol error, undefined symbol" with some symbol name suffixed to it. and in the next line it said, Initrocess terminated with status 127. What should I do now? should I use a live CD to recover? I got the same errors in recoverymode also, the system isn't just booting!

instead of doing all those updates to get current, you really should do a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04. you can boot off the liveCD and backup your /home folder before formatting and installing the new ubuntu.
