Well, using opensource drivers works well too (you can test them using a 2.6.38 kernel in maverick too).
However, Bios 1.25 upgrade

Hi there guys! I'm going to buy a Acer TimelineX 4820T... can some of you summarize the current situation?
What works out of the box with the latest updates? What issues are there and how to solve them? Does the camera work?
Whatever you can do or dream you can do, start doing it! In audacity, there is genius, power and magic.

Excellent, I love the fact that they keep updating unlike some OEMs (Samsung).
Will flash today.
use linux
I have the 4820T and love it. The first thing I recommend doing is flash to the latest BIOS.
Everything works out of the box except:
-multi touch on the touchpad
-internal microphone
-the camera works but is hit or miss with Google Chat
The TimelineX is an improvement over the original Timeline (my wife has one) and I recommend it to anyone that asks.
use linux
So, you're telling me that if I install the latest Ubuntu everything will be recognised out of the box?
Do I need to flash the BIOS? Mic and Camera ok? The Intel card ok? Ethernet and wireless ok?
Sorry to ask all these questions, but my last experience with a laptop (Toshiba) has been aweful and this is the reason why I am getting rid of it to buy a new one...

I'm doing some testing right now. So far, I have been using this for fixes:
