Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri & it's expansion Alien Crossfire, work on Linux & is one of the best 4X strategy games I've ever played.

i think that im going to be busy with wesnoth for a few years. not to mention the multiplayer is to die for! are there addon packs for wesnoth that i can download? outside of the ones that are in the game menu?

Just about every user-created module is available by clicking the Add-ons button in the main menu. There are LOTS of them.



PS--all the other games in this thread get my thumb's up as well.

Master of Orion 2 is another awesome sci-fi 4x strategy game that works great in DosBOX (& probably WiNE as well).

Ogre Battle.. oh wait, that's only turn based during battle. It's still the best!

What about Stellar Forces (http://www.stellarforces.com). It's a sci-fi squad strategy game, a bit like the mission bits in X-Com.

SMAC, Civ IV and X-Com all work on Linux. SMAC by way of the Loki games Linux port + Xephyr, Civ IV via Wine with some tweaking, and X-Com in DOSBox.

He is right, you know. The game is expensive, true, but Worth. Every. Penny.
