Please??
Try to change it in AMD Catalyst Control Center. (Display Manager-->DTV.x-->Adjustment)
I have the same problem using a Radeon HD 4600. I am using a Syncmaster P2370HD TV/Monitor. If I connect the display to the DVI port, I get to use the full screen (meaning the whole panel) and the display (colors, edge, etc.) looks alright. If I connect the monitor to the HDMI port, only a portion of the screen is used and the display looks wrong. Look at the attached pictures (screenshots of my desktop). I use 10.04 with ATI closed source drivers. I tried a Live USB with 11.10 and stock drivers and the problem is the same.
--EDIT--
The resizing of the pictures do not show the issue.

I just downloaded and installed the latest ATI drivers. With the open driver and the closed source driver I can use the full panel. The display is still not right. Fonts and icons have a halo around them and the colors are just not right. See the attached picture. HDMI sound output is only limited to stereo and with the open driver there is no sound output.
