    HOWTO: Terratec remote (Jaunty/Karmic/Lucid)

    (Perhaps this guide also applies to other brands, Terratec is the only one I have tested.)

    Having had a rather frustrating experience of getting my Terratec Cinergy-T XXS USB dvb-t adapter to work in Ubuntu Jaunty/Karmic, I decided to write this walkthrough for others in the same situation, hope you find it useful!



    1.

    /dev/input/eventX should be renamed to the appropriate event on your system, you can find this by issuing the command:

    4. Make the file dvbir.conf:

    (NB: the line "options dvb_usb_dib0700 force_lna_activation=1" is not strictly related to the remote, but rather to the actually dvb signal, whether it is necessary or not may vary.



    5. Restart LIRC:

    6. run

    to test whether you receive any signals from your remote. In some cases, including mine, two signals will be received every time you press a button. In some programs (MythTV, for example) this can be mitigated via the .lircrc, but in other sadly not. I am not sure what the cause of the problem is, but it might be a firmware bug or similar. Luckily, in some apps, this is not a problem, and XBMC/Boxee will act normally despite the double signals.



    Concluding notes: To actually make your remote useful in X (i.e. gnome/KDE/etc.) you should create a .lircrc file in your home directory and run a irxevent daemon which will allow you to map various keys to the remote buttons. There are plenty of websites that demonstrate how this is done, so have at it!

    I'm trying to make my Terratec remote work, but I don't know what event # to use:

    I have tried 4 and then 6 but none of them work after restarting lirc. When running irw, and pressing remote control keys, I see no output in the terminal. Could you help me please? Thanks.

    hmm, it doesn't seem to have detected that you have an ir-device connected. Which Terratec remote/receiver are you using? is it USB?

    Thank you, it's a PCI one. I'm using a Terratec Cinergy HT PCI:

    There's the remote control sensor that has a white wire that is plugged into the PCI board.

    Hmm, it seems your ir-receiver isn't being recognized by ubuntu. Have you checked out whether it is supported by the kernel? If there is no support there is little hope of getting it to work.

    I'd say googling around would be your best bet. I've tried some (admittedy superficial) searches, but have not been able to figure out which remote component your card uses. I am sorry that I am unable to help further!:/
