    Wide format printers

I am looking to get a small wide format printer and i dont know what is supported in linux. i have had no luck getting any information and the manufactures are really no help. so i thought i would go to the people and find out if anyone has gotten one and how it has worked out. here is one i was looking at I'm not big in Epson but its very popular any thoughts would be great.

what we need it for is primarily printing decals and sublimation for shirts.

were not going to worry about getting one big enough to banners yet that will be in the future. if you happen to have any thoughts about a large wide format that would be helpful too 24 inch + if we went that big we would try to go with a 48inch

OpenPrinting.org is a good site to check...

    http://www.openprinting.org/printers/manufacturer/Epson
    http://www.openprinting.org/printers/manufacturer/HP
    http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Canon/

The HP OfficeJet Pro K8600 seems like a good match for your needs.

I did silk screening so I never got into dye sublimation. My experience with inkjets were that Epsons had very good print quality but were noisy, slow, and dispensed a lot more ink than necessary (double-sided printing wasn't an option because the paper got soaked through). The results of a simple search on the Epson site yielded this result: Your search for "linux" did not return any results.

I've been using HP printers for 15 years with happy results. Nearly every printer they offer has Linux drivers for download from their site. In general, I am very satisfied with HP quality and their commitment to Linux so I will continue to use and recommend their products.

If I were you, I would call HP, Epson, and maybe even Canon and ask them to recommend a wide-format sublimation printer within your price range that works perfectly with Linux.

    Cheers,

have you had any luck with your printing and ubuntu, i was about to give it a try with the epson 3800 for photo printing, sounds like you are a professional printer, http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/, have you seen or tried this link ? be nice to get some feedback, photographers and printers are struggling with linux. ps just tried latest version of DIGIKAM for editing A1, flies along !!

I've used an Epson 1400 in linux for years without a problem. I generally am using MSI's UT14 black ink set using Quad Tone Rip through wine.
