Re: Acer Aspire Timeline X 3820T

    Hi admiral0,
acpi on this laptop is quite buggy. Don't expect a lot more than 4h of surfing the net without the power-supply plugged in. The system is generally quite hot. 40-45°C when idle and 65-70°C when re-encoding a movie at full load. I haven't yet found a way to manually control the cpu-fan. The problem appears to be acer_wmi.
You might want to take a look at my acpi-relevant dmesg output:
    Code:

Re: Acer Aspire Timeline X 3820T

    Thanks a lot.

I was searching for that :>

Looks like it's not acer-wmi's fault about battery. First of all it's acer's fault. (i already saw a quirk in acpi/battery.c specific for acer computers.

At this point i cannot do anything without actual hardware, hours of printk() and recompiles :>

Re: Acer Aspire Timeline X 3820T

Really "switchable" not yet, but at least there is a way to turn off the ATI card, saving a lot of power:

As far as I know, there is no support for switching graphics in the current X server, but there are people working on that:

Has anyone had any luck with the battery level issue?

Re: Acer Aspire Timeline X 3820T

First of all thanks so much for this post, it helped me solv my problems with the Aspire 3820, but for some grimmer news. Suddenly I lost all of networking under Kubuntu. The laptop was sleeping and the battery ran out and after that(and several reboots) there is no networking, neither wireless nor cable. Anyone have any suggestions?
