Has anyone tried to do tethering with a Tracfone handset? Been successful?
Barring intentional crippling of the handset by Tracfone, I don't see any reason why one couldn't use their really cheap model - currently the Samsung T105G - with a portable computer for mobile Internet access.
As I understand it, tethering is a kind of mobile dialup networking. Getting online with a Tracfone would be slow and expensive, but I see at least 2 benefits:
1) cheap equipment. The Samsung T105G is only $10 US.
2) privacy. At least in the US, Tracfones can be purchased with cash and activated anonymously. Very attractive to those who value their privacy or can't afford to be tracked (let's say, political dissidents).
3) oh yeah, it's mobile (also helps point #2).
