This thread is slightly confusing (confused?); we are talking about two separate products:
Unity - improved interface for netbooks and tablets
    Light - instant on

I use DockBarX on the left side when using a widescreen monitor, it is a better use of space.

Not really. Ubuntu Light is where you're going to see Unity rolled out.

I don't use windows anymore but when I did in the past I always set up a dual boot so that if/when windows crashed I could recover my music and documents. Might be a good selling point to get people to use Ubuntu Light that have never tried Linux before.

Unity is also set to become the default interface for UNE in 10.10.

Bring it on. My Dell mini is ready!
Ubuntu 15.10 Wily Werewolf, Mate 1.12.1
Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus, Mate 1.12.1
    Ubuntu. Faster, smoother, more beautiful...

Just played with the alpha on my asus 1201n.

As a proof of concept, it's excellent. However, "dash" is still non-existent, and the entire project is useless for the average user until that comes long.

The only program launcher for anything other than favorites that are in the launch bar is a nautilus link to /usr/share/applications
