multiuser login after karmic upgrade

OK, so the upgrade to 10.04 went well. Mostly.

UNR + GDM.

If I log in, then my partner logs into her a/c, I can't log back in. More correctly, I can log in, but after the password is accepted for my a/c I get a blank screen (and can hear the machine working away at logging me in).

CTRL+ALT+F7 will take me to her desktop (locked).
CTRL+ALT+F8 takes me back to mine, black screen.
CTRL+ALT+F9 takes me to login, where I show as logged in.

If I kill my gnome-session from console, I can log in again.

Also, when booting, I'm prompted for login / pass at GDM. After logging in, I get to ... the login screen! The second login screen will actually let me log in. Wierd.
