    If it's a complicated mess, then it doesn't matter HOW popular it is. There was a time when pet rocks were all the rage, and I can't for the life of me figure out a good reason for that. Sure, pet rocks didn't last longer than six months, but six months is already enough to generate a lot of momentum and legacy code for a programming language.
