When I load need for speed it says "Please insert the correct CDROM, select OK to restart the application". But I have /media/CDROM mapped as drive D: in the wine config.

Wine does not fully support all copy protection schemes, so even with a disk in the drive, the game may still ask for the disk. Usually the only way around it is to find a cracked executable that has had the copy protection removed and replace the game's default executable. Unfortunately, cracks are a legal quagmire, so don't ask where or how to get them here, you'll have to figure that one out on your own.
Before using what is potentially Malware add the disk path to wine using "Configure WINE" in the applications menu.
