    Intel 945 GMA chipset proformance issues

    I replaced my windows xp with ubuntu 10.04 on my netbook, obviously not a very powerful computing platform, but it could run games like deus ex just fine. Now the desktop works pretty well, but even the visualboy advance emulator runs too slow to be playable. I've seen things about Intel chipsets not running well on Ubuntu, and done about a thousand Google searches, but I cant seem to find what's wrong. I have the Intel 945 GMA express mobile chipset.

    The 3D acceleration is not working as far as I can see

    In a terminal type

    glxinfo

    and look for the following

    Xlib: extension "GLX" missing on display ":0.0".


    I'm currently looking for the best way to re-enable on my acer aspire one after updating

    I have the same onboard gfx in my laptop. I typed glxinfo and I couldn't find what u mentioned. Does that mean mines working?

    Hmmm, that looks like all the 3D acceleration stuff is working. Can you post your /etc/X11/xorg.conf?

    Have solved my issues on the Aspire One: a lot of nvidia modules got loaded at update which have interfered with intel acceleration.

    Start the synaptic package manager
    Search for nvidia-1
    remove them all

    -->works

    beware removing NVIDIA network modules...

    didn't work, still getting pitiful speed in all my games, and I'm pretty sure that xorg.conf doesn't even exist.

    I am using a lenovo 3000 n100 that I just set up to dual boot 10.04 and am having the same issue (same intel 945gm)- generally everything is working fine out of the box except the video acceleration- also 10.04 doesn't (at least by default) have an xorg.config that I have seen- I believe from what I have read it isn't used in the latest versions
