    Re: GNOME Shell Testing

I too was trying to see where they are with this project at the moment ......

I use a old version of Gnome-Shell that I run from Linux Mint ........
I have no idea why the latest is not working ...... sorry ....

Maybe they have emptied it out and are leaving it till after the new release to start development again.

Has the new Gnome Shell been removed till after the new MM 10.10 release ?

For me personally I just would like a Desktop thats clean and functional to work in efficiently ....
so far so good ..... with Gnome 3 and Compiz ....
I just need the organisation part now

Interesting point of view compiz effects can be added to Mutter (Metacity 3) .... is this happening though ? ..... LINK

Why do Mutter and Compiz crash and are the effects from Compiz going to be added to Gnome-Shell ?

Nice recent write up on where Gnome-Shell is heading .... Link

    Merk42,

When Maverick is finally out and this forum (Maverick testing) is already closed, can you start a thread on Installation & Upgrades or wherever fit to continue this discussion?

It's also nice if users of the currently latest stable version of Ubuntu can discuss installing GNOME Shell from source.

You could try to delete the gnome-shell folder, and the source folder also found in home.
Then redo the building instructions from step 1 on the first page of this thread.

GNOME Shell will still be in development during Natty's development cycle, so I'm not sure if it should be on areas of the forum where people aren't using pre-relase software yet.
If the only reason you think your software is better is because it's FOSS, you need to write better software

I have just tried it now.. erasing "gnome-shell" & "source" folder & starting again from Step 1 .. and again I get the exact same error

I have re-downloaded those files over 6 times already(a hassle with slow internet)... something must be going wrong on the other side or something is missing or etc

I'm on 10.10 RC x64 using all the latest updates... is there anything else we could try? I hopefully want to be able to test this before 10.10 RC ends

Link

Compiz is not compatible with Gnome-shell. Why do people keep saying or assuming that it is???? its been covered many times....
    Mutter is a window manager
    Compiz is a window manager
you cannot have both of them running at the same time....
Unless they develop some hack to make it work which has not been planned. Gnome don't want compiz to be compatible with Gnome-shell

Oh well, the version in the repos works, but I want to see what's new.
