I use this one, but I am actually using legacy GDM on my system now.

As you can see from your present problem itself, GNOME is progressing way slower nowadays compared to how it used to.

Before I was indifferent towards GNOME and KDE; any would do, but now with every .X version of KDE I find tons of improvements, unfortunately, the same doesn't go for GNOME anymore.

I do not like to see the death of OpenSource projects, and for this reason a new GTK and GNOME basing itself on C ++ in next versions, would be a great move.
Please stop spreading your KDE propaganda. All of what you just mentioned above is personal opinion and preference, which you seem to have to repeat it in every thread. This thread has nothing to do with KDE.

And for C holding back the Gnome project is compete BS. Are you even a professional programmer who has worked with both of these languages in depth to have a valid opinion on this? KDE only seems to be progressing faster because it was horribly broken a few versions ago (yes, that is my opinion, not fact) where Gnome was stable. And as far as progression, they are doing something completely new with Gnome 3, which could be very innovative.

Back on topic. I tried gdm2setup and it would not even allow me to select a new wallpaper for some reason.

    Re: GDM theme manager?

It is a known bug, though I am unsure why they have not fixed it yet..

Also, I do not see Gnome stagnating. The new features list is growing larger every new release. I prefer C over C++, and I am happy Gnome uses it. Though C++ is welcome as well, like in Gnote.
