Smile monitor shuts off after "Starting Up..." 10.04

I have upgraded 3 of my 4 servers to Ubuntu 10.04 now.

I started with 8.10 on two and 9.04 on the other.

When I started here is the layout:
    Server1: 8.10
    Server2: 9.04
    Server3: 8.10

Server1 and 3 I upgraded by going from 8.10 to 9.04 to 9.10 to 10.04 (the only difference is I let the updates happen on Server1 before the upgrade)
    Server2 was 9.04 to 9.10 to 10.04

When I upgraded Server 2 and 3 to 9.10, the resolution on the screen got really high. When I went to 10.04 the screen would and still shut off after the "Starting Up..." message.

Server 1 never changed and is working fine.

I cannot find any information that will help me to get those monitors back on. I have found lots of info, but nothing helped.

The machines are working fine, I can ssh to them and the web / mysql / samba servers are working great.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

installing grub 2 fixed the issue.
