Alright, so I'm trying to install GDAM on my system, and... I didn't expect it to be this much of a project.

First off, I need to compile it from source, this would not be a problem if it was updated, but the project seems to have been abandoned for the time being. As such, ./configure requires gtk-config. However, as of gtk-2.0, gtk-config has been deprecated in favor of pkg-config. There go a few hours to looking through code and mailing lists. Okay, so I figure I can just trick ./configure into thinking it's looking at gtk-config: one mv command later I have a gtk-config, back to ./configure... and get this:

**the reason it references pkg-config (or what I can find, at least) is the ./configure grabs the first word from the script for it's name. Weird, but not the point.

Alright, so did a find for gthread... no dice. Looked it up, it has to do with program threading. So, I move on to my other solution to try: try installing Gtk+-1.2 or earlier somewhere on the computer, see if that's easier. Tracked one down, extract, ./configure, now I need GLIB, the precursor to gtk-config.

But that's okay, I dove right in, took another few hours, found out that I just have to change a few prefixes and enabled some switches, namely: --with-glib=/usr/share/glib-2.0/, which tells ./configure to look for the current version of GLIB. The system type check was giving me some errors too; I decided to ignore them for now. So here we go, ./configure:

But this really makes no sense to me. I checked the log, right after the POSIX test there are only two lines:

again, no sense to me. I guess I'll fiddle with it again in a while, but until then, anyone have any ideas?
