Angry Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

    I am running Hardy 8.04

    I get this error:

/opt/novell/groupwise/client/bin/groupwise-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libjvm.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I am very puzzled about the location of libjvm.so

    Code:
    rwigle@Dina-Auntie:/opt/novell/groupwise/client$ locate libjvm.so
    /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.07/jre/lib/i386/client/libjvm.so
    rwigle@Dina-Auntie:/opt/novell/groupwise/client$ ls -a /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.07/jre/lib/i386/client/
    . .. classes.jsa
    r
Question 1: Is libjvm.so in that folder or not???

I made a soft link to the 1.6.0.07/jre folder in the client folder, but still get the above error.

    Help...

Thumbs up Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

I posted the message about libjvm.so not being found. (Hardy Heron)

Not quite sure what the problem was, BUT:

I removed my install of the groupwise client and ALL sun-java6-* using Synaptic.

    Reinstalled:

    sun-java6-jdk
    sun-java6-jre
    sun-java6-plugin
    sun-java6-fonts
    sun-java6-bin
    gsfonts-X11

Now reinstall the groupwise client from the deb file, and finally:
    Code:
    sudo ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun-1.6.0.07/jre /opt/novell/groupwise/client/jre
    It works!

P.S. I am guessing that my problem is that I tried to install a newer version of java6 `manually' rather than just rely on those that are on the Ubuntu repos. (???)

Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

I am trying to install GroupWise 7 sp3 on 8.10. When I type the following:

    sudo ./install

I get a gui interface for the installation. I click on "Install GroupWise Client" and I get the following errors:

Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

    Two responses:

    1. Why not try the method described in the earlier post. It has been used successfully by a number of people?

    If not...

    2. I would try installing the standard c development stuff. (Most of the missing files come from them.

    Specifically:

    sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-libc-dev

Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

Thanks for the info. The only version that I have access to is 7 sp3. I also tried sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-libc-dev and it seems that I have that installed already. Not sure what to do at this point.

build-essential is already the newest version.
    build-essential set to manually installed.

Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

Are you not able to download the package from novell and install as indicated in the links mentioned above? (page 1 of the thread, I think)

I haven't seen the reference to ./install, so your guess is as good as mine.

    Library Fix for 9.10 (karmic)

I used the instructions above to install the Groupwise client on 9.4, but when I upgraded to 9.10 it wiped out a necessary library, libstdc++5. Following these instructions, I downloaded the library package from Jaunty and copied it to the Groupwise client library directory.

    Code:
    mkdir /tmp/newlib
    cd /tmp/newlib
    ar vx ~/downloads/libstdc++5_3.3.6-17ubuntu1_i386.deb
    tar xzf data.tar.gz
    cd /opt/novell/groupwise/client/lib
    sudo cp /home/jfriant/src/new/libstdc++/usr/lib/libstdc++.so.5.0.7 .
    sudo ln -s libstdc++.so.5.0.7 libstdc++.so.5
    rm -rf /tmp/newlib
After that Groupwise works again. Also note that it was fine to use the 32-bit library on my 64-bit machine.

Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

I was able to install Groupwise 7 on Ubuntu 10.04. But when I launch the program, it hangs on the "Novell Groupwise 7.0" splash graphic. The bottom of the splash graphic says "Connecting," and little red dots appear in a row as if it's trying to connect but can't.

I'm stuck here, and don't know what to do. Any ideas?

Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

I had problems installing GroupWise 8.0.1 on my Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit install.

    I couldn't "alienate" the rpm:
    Code:
dpkg-gencontrol: error: current host architecture 'amd64' does not appear in package's architecture list (i386)
All I did was to follow the steps showed in this post:
    http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1420744

Basically, I had to specify the -g flag of alien :
    Code:
    -g, --generate
Generate a temporary directory suitable for building a package
from, but do not actually create the package. This is useful if you
want to move files around in the package before building it. The
package can be built from this temporary directory by running
"debian/rules binary", if you were creating a Debian package, or by
running "rpmbuild -bb <packagename>.spec" if you were creating a
               Red Hat package.
    Go in the directory generated.
    Code:
    cd novell-groupwise-client-8.0.1HP

Then change the architecture in the control file from i386 to amd64.
    Code:
    sudo vim debian/control
    Change the line from :
    Code:
    Architecture: i386
    to
    Code:
    Architecture: amd64
    Then build the package with:
    Code:
    sudo ./debian/rules binary
And the last step is to install the package:
    Code:
    cd ..
    sudo dpkg -i novell-groupwise-client_8.0.1HP-89146_amd64.deb
    Hope this helps a few

Re: HOWTO: Install GroupWise 7 Cross-Platform Client

I installed Groupwise 7.04 to Lucid (64-bit) using the following procedure:

    1. download from Novell

    2. convert rpm to amd64 (See #29 in this thread)

    3. install using dpkg -i novell-groupwise-gwclient_7.0.4-20100314_amd64.deb

    4. Fixed libstdc++ issue (see #27 in this thread)

    5. The client works, (view mails, send email, archive messages) but I still have the following errors kicked up if I start it in the terminal.

    Error: Failed to load /home/rwigle/.novell/groupwise/.webrenderer/linux/corecomponents/libgtksuperwin.so
    Error: Failed to load /home/rwigle/.novell/groupwise/.webrenderer/linux/corecomponents/libgtkxtbin.so
    Error: Failed to load /home/rwigle/.novell/groupwise/.webrenderer/linux/corecomponents/libgtkembedmoz.so
    Error: Failed to load /home/rwigle/.novell/groupwise/.webrenderer/linux/corecomponents/libgtkxtbin.so
    Error: Failed to load.

I have only used the client for a while, but it seems to work. I had java installed beforehand, but I did not need to do the linking to java. (Maybe I should?)

** EDIT ** I normally view messages as plain text. If I try to view them as html the client hangs. So I linked to my existing ia32 jre folder as follows:

    ln -s /usr/lib/jvm/ia32-java-6-sun/jre jre

Now "groupwise -debug" starts with the same webrenderer errors I pasted in above. Again, the only problem I have discovered is with html view of messages.

I think it's because there is no libgtk-1.2 package for lucid. Is there a work around or other Suggestions?
