New Video card wont display properly

I am upgradeing my video card in my Ubuntu box. I got a Nvidia 7300gt and installed it is giving me an odd error.

I am running 10.4 right now and when I power up the PC it boots normally and displays normally, until the Ubuntu logo and the row of dots loading bar disappears. Then the screen looks like this:

When I replace the old card everything is fine. And I have a hard time believing the card is bad right out of the box when it does display the post info and the loading screen perfectly only to fail when the login window pops up.

    Any ideas?

I Just tried the new card in my girlfriends windows box that has an identical motherboard, and it worked just fine. So Ubuntu is shitting it's self over this new card even with a live CD. Any ideas now?
