10.4 O dear what can the matter be
I have been with Ubuntu since day one and this is the first time I have been annoyed to the point of posting a thread like this and it saddens me a lot.
I believe that 10.4 should not have been released. It is not ready , not by a long shot. The version they have released is worse than the Beta.
On the machine I use for the things
Intel Core2 Duo 2.3
ATI Graphics HD2600
Standard USB mouse Keyboard etc etc . Stock standard nothing fancy
It runs any Linux distro I throw at it , Bet it Suse , Yoper , Fedora , Older Ubuntu without a hitch.
I try 10.4 , No Keyboard , no wireless , no Ethernet . Will only see one of the HDD's . Takes an eternity to achieve any thing.
I try numerous Keyboards with out success. It is not the ports as the work for other Distros that boot on the machine including Live CD's
So I think OK , I will try it on my iMac in a Virtual machine using VM Ware. Same level of failure occurs. Different set of failures but same level of failures.
Quite simply if Linux wants to become the Desktop of the future this type of release just cannot occur and if that means not religiously sticking to the six month release cycle then so be it, delay or skip a release in order to get it right. A skip or delay looks way better than an abject failure .
