Gotta love the comments in the code:
//commented out the goto instruction, don't abort transaction;
//this sounds dangerous and probably is, but it works
That's a real software engineer talking there.

Dell Studio 15: Intel i5 2.40ghz/4 threads/2.93ghz turbo, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, 512mb ATI Mobility Radeon 4570 HD and an awesome backlit keyboard.
So is there a fix to this? I'm having the same problem on my Studio 1558.
hi. fresh install of 10.04. my fan is spining more than it used to be on karmic. its goes on and on for hours, its noisy. not with the max speed though.im on dell inspiron 6400. c2d 2ghz.
I've realised that my laptop is actually a Dell Studio 1558 also, so we're both in the same boat dkartik.

looks like many forums reported this problem, but no solution yet, I've this problem with many distribution.
Update:
This is my second post in this thread. In the first post I complained about the crazy non-stop spinning of the fan!!
Yesterday night, instead of shutting down my Dell 1555, I just closed it and left. In the morning, the fan was screaming loudly and the laptop was heated like never before
I checked 'top' and none of the processes were busy (max was 2% for gnome-terminal).
I don't know which moron is heating my CPU and spinning my fan restlessly. I am afraid this might cause some damage to my CPU ( I never noticed this in Jaunty 9.04 and Karmic 9.10). Windows Vista is just fine and runs the fan when I execute codes which require heavy CPU time and memory. Even in Vista, the fan will never make this much noise.
Hope Linux gurus will help us in this regard and save our laptops...

I have the hd 4570 card too, and have installed this driver, but doesn't seem to have had any effect.
