    envy24control, M44, 10.04 and no sound

Hi there, I've been having problems with my Delta 44 on 10.04. I'm getting no sound but the levels are showing up in envy24control panel - i.e if a sound is being played the meters are going up and down as normal. I disabled the onboard sound via the BIOS months back so M44 is default card 0 at the moment. The problem was after a fresh install of 10.04 - I was using KK and sound was fine (after removing pulseaudio from the system).

I was thinking, should I remove the pulseaudio folder from etc entirely?

Or has anybody any suggestions as to why the levels would show up in envy but not come through the breakout box?

    Thanks in advance!!!

I would remove it entirely. I've the same card, and pulse offers zero functionality for me as well as not working on any install I have tried.

And try this: Using a Terminal="Applications->Accessories->Terminal"
    Open this file for editing:
    Code:
     gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Insert this line at the bottom:
    Code:
     options snd-ice1712 model=delta44
    Save. Close. Reboot.

Alternate channel mappings needed for ICE1712

Cards such as Audiophile 2496, Delta 1010LT and others using the ICE1712 chip, there is a bug with the channel mapping.

    Diagnosis

Open a terminal, then enter this command:

    cat /proc/asound/cards | grep ICE1712

If you get a line specifying the name of your soundcard, you're probably affected.

    Fix / workaround

    See bug #178442.

    Re: envy24control, M44, 10.04 and no sound

I removed the pulse folder and I attached the suggested line to the alsa-base.conf file. Still no go. I've attached some possibly helpful results from standard commands - apologies for the overload of information but I'm unsure which parts aren't useful.

    Re: envy24control, M44, 10.04 and no sound

I really hope we can find a solution to this soon !

Also M-audio Delta 44 worked fine before upgrade .

    Also works with PCLinuxOS2010 .

I have tried way too many times to fix this :

removed pulseaudio and installed esound - partial functionality system sounds worked - audacity also had sound .

Reinstalled pulseaudio - removed esound . ETC......

In the process I have probably totally lost any hope of salvaging this install .

BTW , booting from 10.04 CD also gives the same symptoms as the upgrade...

I may try reverting to the previous kernal if this does not resolve soon.

    Good luck !

Did you try the work-around in the bug report thread?
