I am as well, blacklisting should have been enough at this point. Did you try installing nvidia drivers via hardware appelet?

I can't get that far. The desktop doesn't come up due to these drivers, from what I can tell.

Tell me about it! I've never had this much trouble with video card drivers.

I've got it to work. you just need to go to synaptic and remove the nouveau driver from there. make sure to remove it completely. that worked for me and i had the same problem that you had

remember to reboot and then just install the nvidia driver normally

Removing nouveau also removes lots of other stuff that looks real important like acpi etc. I have that installed in synaptic and yet my nvidia install went fine.

actually it only removed xserver-xorg-video-all

oh and i updated to 10.04 from 9.10 so that might be why it won't work

How about libdrm nouveau?

and it wont remove the libdrm noveau

I just tried removing nouveau xserver and the system booted in low graphics mode without nvidia drivers loaded. I did remove the blacklist entries. So even after removing the nouveau driver, blacklist entries seem to be needed.

well i had the blacklists still in place i just made sure it can't possibly load the nouveau driver what ever was the case by removing it and i also had the nv xserver driver installed probably because i updated from 9.10 (and when i rebooted it loaded the nv driver and then i just installed the nvidia driver like you would install it on 9.10)
