Re: Share with the community your Lucid Lynx install/upgrade experience
I've installed 10.04 64 bit desktop on three amd64 compters as well as the latest Mint on two. The installs went well on the two boxes without raid. I installed to the raid0 with some glitches, now all solved. The install on the raid initially failled with a fatal grub error. I fixrd initially by reinstalling the grub2 to a non-raid sata drive. I have finally found the trick for it and installed the mbr to the raid0 root array symbolic link found in /dev/mapper. That box is fast and responsive.
My problem is still with the inconsistent handling of 'fakeraid' between sucessive distros. For instance, gparted will not currently work with the raid drive at all. Good news is that the raid drives are now automatically mountable in nautilus.
I avoided most graphics problems because I had to upgrade all my video drives to be fully supported in Win7. My main problem was that my latest box would not install until I disconnected one monitor. The distro graphics drivers would not otherwise permit anything but a black screen. The ATI driver works perfectly! There is no driver for my printer so I have to use win7 for any printing.
Otherwise am still evaluating.
