Absolute Beginner Tutorial Regarding Windows Vista and Windows 7 Partitioning

Used this with success and wanted to start a fresh thread to share it

You MUST follow the directions absolutely as directed

You only have yourself to blame if you do not have everything backed-up

    Brief additional observation:

    Machine: HP DV9812US

Using Vista's Disk Management, we successfully shrank the main partition once. We used the shrink size that Vista Disk Management provided.

After following the above mentioned tutorial from the first post, we received the following message while attempting to use Vista Disk Management for additional shrinkage:

Logical Disk Manager: Access Is Denied
We tried a few different ideas that failed.

What did work was to cold boot into safe mode and do the shrinkage in safe mode.

For reference: Depressing the F8 key about twice per second after depressing the power button seems to work most of the time to get us to the safe mode selection area.

After that successful safe-mode shrinkage, we rebooted to get out of safe mode and then repeated the procedures from the tutorial and were able to successfully use Vista Disk Management to shrink the partition further with no access denials.

    Use it or lose it.

    Either way, it's all copacetic.
