I'm trying to load ubuntu onto my brother's HP Pavilion a6712f desktop. It originally came with Vista, but got it loaded up with viruses. I reformatted the HD with gparted because I kept getting HD errors. Then I loaded 9.04. On restart, I got "respawning too fast..." message and it won't boot.

Would this be remedied by loading a different version of ubuntu?

What file format should I put the HD in? It was originally in nfts, but I changed it to ext3 to [hopefully] make loading ubuntu smoother.
