Multiple Desktops with different background and folders

The use of N900 makes me thought of the possibilities of adding different background and icons to the multiple desktops in Ubuntu. I know it is possible to add as many desktops as you can on Linux system but is it possible to add different wallpapers and folders to a particular desktops, say desktop 1, and the folder or program not show in, say, desktop 2? This feature will be very great.

The wallpaper should be possible. What do you mean by different folders?

Say you have a folder "Music" on Desktop 1. I don't want this folder to show up on Desktop2. In that case I can have as many icons on each of the desktops as I wish. Icons on Desktop1 do not have to show up on Desktop2.

    Happy Derbying this weekend.

Haha, thanks. Im not for sure but I dont think the folder thing will work. The desktop is linked to your home directory and the Desktop folder. So anything in that folder is going to show up on your desktop, no matter
    which workspace you are on.

You can do it in KDE 4.4.2, but I don't think it's doable in gnome

In my experience, you can have the separate wallpapers BUT it takes away desktop icons, here's how in Compiz,

    In compizconfig settings manager:

click utility then enable "wallpaper" , then click to go into the "wallpaper" editing.

click on "new" to choose your 4 wallpapers from where ever you have them stored.

LIke I said this works great, BUT no desktop icons

That should be in the next release of kubuntu. correct? Perhaps, we should try doing it in gnome as well.
