it looks like for stability issues it was removed. so the only way i guess for classic ubuntu is to reinstall regular ubuntu over NR...

I've found that standard Ubuntu works well on the Starling. I have a Star1 and it runs Lucid like a champ, even with Compiz.

yeah I did a fresh install of classic 9.10 :)

By the way, how is Lucid? Is it really that much better than Karmic? or not?

I love Lucid. It works well, but I haven't tested the wireless farther than my upstairs bedroom (maybe 50 feet? I'm not sure). I'm sure once the driver is released, the wireless range will be improved.

I find it faster to boot, well laid-out, and a joy to look at. They've made some interesting changes that, I admit, I was originally against, but since I've used them, I find the changes refreshing. I really like this version of Ubuntu. It is an LTS, so that's something to think about when you decide to upgrade.

    Definitely... on both counts.

Ubuntu has been doing lots of nice updates for this LTS. Little things; and some I didn't think I'd like, but I do.

Lucid has been great: nary an issue. Faster boot. Prettier.

I moved the window buttons. Wasn't a fan.

Got rid of the MeMenu: a great idea, but plenty of better programs. Implement it better and it'd stay.

Aside from that, it's an excellent release.

Didn't spend much time with 10.04 yet. But it looks like classic option is not available as well. Am I right?

I'm thinking of installing regular 10.04 on my Starling. Is there anything special I need to do?

No. Just install it, and then install and run the System76 Driver.
