    Dell mini 10 vs Inspirion 11z

    Folks:
    Is the Intel Celeron 743, 1.3GHz, 800Mhz 1MB Cache, a better processor then the ATOMs found in the netbooks? I need something small, but not too, too small, and I do want some extra kick to run Ubuntu 9.10 on it, while keeping the price pretty cheap.

    =======================
    ---- Inspirion 11z ----
    =======================
    Intel® Celeron® 743 (1.3GHz, 800MHz, 1MB cache)
    Intel® Pentium® SU4100 (1.3GHz, 800MHz, 2MB cache)

    =================
    ---- Netbook ----
    =================
    Intel® AtomTM N270 (1.6GHz/533Mhz FSB/512K L2Cache)
    Intel® AtomTM N280 (1.66GHz/667Mhz FSB/512K L2Cache)

    Mini 10:
    Intel® AtomTM Z520 (1.33GHz/533MHz FSB/512K L2Cache)
    Intel® AtomTM Z530 (1.60GHz/533MHz FSB/512K L2Cache)

    =============
    The Inspirion does support a max. of 4GB.

    Thanks.

    Re: Dell mini 10 vs Inspirion 11z

    I would avoid the Dell Mini 1010 at all costs due to its notorious GMA500 graphics.

    Personally I purchase netbooks based on ergnomics (keyboard, screen, battery life, portability, etc) not processor power. If you want raw computing power, you'll be much happier with a small laptop than a netbook, IMHO.

    Ubuntu 9.10 will run capably on any netbook (provided the hardware is supported).
