    I'll try and rebuild the LiveCD with the latest kernel/patches soon.

    I haven't been having any luck yet.

    When customizing the LiveCD with the latest upstream kernel, I'm having problems booting the LiveCD:
    mounting aufs on /root failed: no such device
    aufs mount failed

    If any of you know how to fix this issue, please let me know, so I can test this against the latest upstream kernel.

    An update:

    I've booted my MBP7,1 with the 2.6.34-RC7 kernel, but still no disks detected

    I am not familiar with recompiling kernel but after some readings, I found that MCP89 has been supported since kernel 2.6.30 but not sure which revision. You can check out at its source at drivers/ata/ahci.c

    With this, I believe the original kernel, which is 2.6.32 in Ubuntu 10.04 has this supported as well. Has anyone tried to compile with the config "CONFIG_SATA_AHCI=y" as it was pre-compiled as modules.

    kwangchin;
    Yeah, it has supported MCP89 since 2.6.29-rc6.

    I'll give it a go tonight to compile with "CONFIG_SATA_AHCI=y"

    With your own compiled 2.6.34-rc7 kernel that has "CONFIG_SATA_AHCI=y"?

    Yes, probably because of RC? I am trying with 2.6.33.3 right now

    I build a (gentoo based) LiveCD each time there is a new kernel and try booting my MacBookPro7,1 using it... with no luck so far.

    Sadly I don't have much time to test this more thoroughly, so here is the ISO if someone is interested:
    http://server7.chavant.info/khanku/genlive/
    (just copy the content of the ISO on an USB stick to boot the system despite the CD drive not being found)

    Thanks khanku. I would still prefer Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
