    what is the name "amd64" ?

    I don't believe it dose any thing to do with AMD processor any way .. but why is amd ?

    AMD was the one who first created the 64-bit version of the x86 instruction set originally made by Intel. Now both companies produce chips for that architecture, but it is still often referred to as AMD64 since they created it.

    Close. Just as AMD pay Intel fees to let them build x86 processors, the amd64 technology is likewise licensed to Intel. AMD own the rights to it, and they invented it whilst Intel made Itanium.
