    If your workstation and your server are both behind the same router, then your external IP address will be the same.

    If this is the case, then go to www.whatismyip.com and use the ip address on that page.

    if you are behind a router, then DynDNS.com will use the external IP to direct traffic to your external IP address (the router). You will also need to tell the router that traffic directed to your external IP is to be forwarded to the servers internal IP address (ie. 192.168.x.x) Normally if you do
    Code:
    sudo ifconfig
    it should give you the internal IP address of the server. that will be the IP you will tell the router to forward requests to.

    could someone please clearify how would i know the server1.example.com part or would i use the information from dyndns.com to do this.

    I believe you would use the domain name you got from DynDNS.

    Ok, I read through the first page of the tutorial also, and again, it will depend on which service you're going to use to serve up the files. It will most likely be either 21,22,80 or 443. Start with 21, if that doesn't work, try 22 and so on. Little bit of trial and error should get you there.
