Been using Ubuntu for about a year and a half now, thanks to my partner. I was a bit dubious at first but now I feel a little educated in the ways of Ubuntu. Still have to run for help occasionally though!

I have been using Ubuntu since late 2008. I was a network admin and engineer for the department of defense for 5 years. Now, computers and networking have thankfully moved into the hobby category and my new one true love has become writing.

Hey all, just dropped in to say hello. New to the forums, been using Linux variants since before Novell bought Suse, I forget the kernel. Was only an intermittent user for the longest time, as it always seemed I had hardware issues on installs. No more, huzzah.

Anyhow, I'm glad to see it's really come of age. Really enjoying having totally gotten rid of windows, and not being clueless at the prompt now.

Hello everybody. I'm a new user here and just wanted to send out a proper hello to everybody. I am brand new to the Linux / Ubuntu environment as of 2 days ago. I have been in the computer industry since 1991. i have had my own business as a Computer and Networking Specialist since 2002. I started out in the days of DOS and Windows 3.0. I have pretty much used, at one time or another, just about all of the most popular OS's. DOS, Unix, Xenix. I have only recently started using Apple computers and I am slowly weeding out the Windows computers.

I just finished my first install of Ubuntu 10.04 which took me 2 - 3 days to get my network settings right. Apparently using static IP's and Static DNS's is not as easy as it first appears. In any event, I'm up and running and probably will be filled with questions soon.

So be prepared. see you soon.

Hi all.Dan 36 uk.Been playing around with ubunto for about 6 hours. Never used other than windows before and am finding the experience something akin to sitting in front of a pc for the first time(pretty cool but puzzling all in one) haven't a clue what i'm doing but its fun.I've got to say tho that the help already has been fantastic.

Hello everyone!
I am extremely new to the Forums. I just got here a few days ago. However, I've been using Ubuntu since right before 10.10 came out so I guess it's about one year, so I'm still a newbie but I'm way more comfortable getting around nowadays. I'm still dual booting with Windows, primarily because I am still trying to find great ways to record music with Linux. I am a musician and music was actually the reason I first started getting into computers. I have been using Ubuntu Studio for about half a year now and I absolutely love it, but I still haven't been able to do the same things with Audacity(open source recording software) that I've been doing with Reaper (shareware recording software).
Anyway, I just built a new PC and I did my homework prior to building to make sure that it was 100% Linux friendly. I've already convinced my brother (who's looking into buying a laptop) to use Ubuntu, as well as my sister, and even one of my guitar students.
I am so glad I finally started using the Forums as they are much, much easier to use than Launchpad, which is what I've using primarily when I've run into problems. Don't get me wrong, Launchpad is great, but I just find Ubuntu Forums easier to use and with a faster response time.

Hi there Ubuntu - I've spent half an hour reading some of the entries here and have quite enjoyed them. I'm one of the traditional old farts (77 already) who are really and thankfully quite numerous in the Linux world. Gravitation to Ubuntu, being almost a certainty, has brought me much pleasure.

So yup, and speaking from "The Smoke" (London's sunlit today) I have 11.04 installed on both of my PCs (both a tad elderly) and plan to spend time learning how to program in Python. The magazine LinuxFormat spurred this interest, running Python tutorials. Luvverly grub! Now I've had my first cataract removal op and can see to read, it's a practical plan. I'm hoping my brain will keep up ...
