Hello people, Just downloaded and installed Ubuntu 11.04. Have been using winxp nd server 2003 till nw. Installed Ubuntu bcuse I need to learn Unix. Forum threads seem to suggest this is a great OS to work on.

Will share my experience as I learn more abt it.

Ubuntu is aimed at desktop usage. If you want to use Linux as server, you'll better go with an all-around distro like Debian, CentOS, scientific Linux or a bunch of other distros. Check distrowatch to find good server distros.

Because Ubuntu is aimed for normal desktop users, that also means it's easier to set up though.

I love music and computers. I used to be a crazy windows fanatic, but I have used ubuntu for a while and now I am a "crazy" ubuntu person. I thank all of you for the help you all provide. I want to be a member of the ubuntu community.

Well only the last 4 days or so, before that i was working full time, i workout 6 times a week, and only just finished converting the attic.

I am signed in all the time on the forums, and when not at machine i browse them on my phone.

I guess i am just efficient....or obsessive, one of the 2

Relax, sit back and enjoy. make sure you read all the stickies in each forum, and the forum FAQ etc.

There is a lot of helpful and knowledgeable people here to assist with any problems, and are all volunteers so if you do post dont RANT if no one posts an answer within 5 minutes...LOL

I spend most of my free time either outside, here, or in #ubuntu on IRC.
