    Hi drugsanonymous and ipeters61,

A big welcome to both of you from all in the Forums. I trust you have each had a good look around by now.

You will find that we are a friendly bunch here. Any questions you have just ask.

I hope you both are with us for many years into the future.

    Cheers and best wishes -

    Hi,

If you couldn't tell by my username I'm Dave.

I have worked in the computer industry for several years now and ubuntu 13.04 is my first ever venture into the world of Linux. My only question is why did I not do it sooner.

Loving the ubuntu experience so far and hopefully it will continue.

Not quite ready to get rid of that dual boot yet but it won't be far away

Re: Welcome to the Forums - Introduce yourself here

I've been using Ubuntu and variants off and on for years. The latest effort is Lubuntu on a Lenovo Thinkpad z60t with a Pentium M processor. I maxed out the ram at 2 GB, up from 512 mb and I replaced the standard hard drive with an Intel 120 GB SSD. Was surprised a machine this old (2005) would take a serial ATA drive (believe that's the interface). Anyway, this thing screams and the old laptop has become a favorite. Lubuntu was exactly the right choice for me.
There are a few tweaks I'd like to make, but don't know how - shortcuts for Leafpad and perhaps a few other often-used programs in a taskbar, or someplace that would make them more convenient with a Web browser open, etc. I've tried dragging an icon to the bar on the bottom of the screen, but that doesn't work. I'm definitely open to suggestions.

Welcome. I suggest you post this in the appropriate support sub-forum as this is a non-support thread in a non-support sub-forum. Copy and paste the above into a new thread and add a descriptive title and any other info you thinks is pertinent. Good luck.

    Hi Dave,

A big welcome to you from all in the Forums - It's great that you are enjoying yourself with Ubuntu.

No need to to worry about the dual boot - many here are in the same boat.

Have a good look around and start to get involved as soon as you wish - ask as many questions as you wish or perhaps you will join in the Cafe banter.

Anyway Dave the main thing is to enjoy yourself and have fun.

    Cheers -

    New to the Forums

    Hello,

I've recently joined the forums and this is my first post so I thought I would say hello! I'm still trying to work my way around, so I don't know if there is a specific forum for community introductions so I hope this is in the right place.

    Anyway, a bit about me:

    - I'm a fan of Ubuntu (hence why I joined the forum)
    - I'm a student, aspiring to be a system administrator in the future
    - I do web development, mainly backend PHP
    - I am currently running two servers, both of which use Ubuntu 12.04, and my laptop is running Ubuntu 13.04

So, I hope that this forum can prove useful, and hopefully I can also help answer some questions that others have!

    Hi kendra,

A big welcome to you from all in the forums - I hope you remain with us for a long time.

I see you have already been active in the forums over the last day - good for you.

Regarding your problem about which version to install, you posted your question a day ago so you are quite entitled to bump your problem. You do this by posting the word "bump" in the reply to thread box.

I hope you get your question answered soon.

    All the best -
